When Kazuma Izumi first began making handmade lures, he noticed that the aluminum foil used on his lure bodies sometimes produced more flash than he wanted while fishing. He began wondering, “Is there a way to create a slightly more subdued shine?” He then tried using the silver foil found inside cigarette packaging, which was readily available to him at the time. Through his fishing experience, he found that lures using this material were particularly effective at catching fish under bright, high-light conditions. Although it has the appearance of aluminum foil, its textured surface produces a softer, more subdued flash. Since then, Izumi has selected between different foil finishes depending on the weather and fishing conditions.
